Feeding the Children of Campos de Suenos
Nestled in the quaint community of Santa Maria de Jesus, Campos de Suenos presently serves close to 1,000 children and their families every week with nutrition programs, school scholarships, medical and clothing assistance. Additionally, the community center host’s worship gatherings, and Bible and Character Building classes to the children and families, weekly.
Opportunity to Serve the Children
During the team’s visit, we had the honor of helping Campo de Suenos service the children of the community by assisting with the weekly feeding program. Each of us were assigned an age group and roles (such as: drink filler, meal runner, or cleaner). The children start arriving at noon and line up outside. Next, they are to move inside and wash their hands. Despite the fact that there are lots of children, they know the routine and remain orderly and disciplined.
The children take their seats, as most have brought their younger siblings (some on their backs in carriers). During my visit, I observed the older siblings chastising their younger siblings when they got out of line, which was admirable.
Lunch consisted of seasoned black beans and rice, accompanied with a drink similar to lemonade.
After lunch, the children assemble in the large room for bible lessons and games.
Campos De Suenos is a place the not only nourishes the stomach but, feed the children’s souls with the word of God! The amount of support that this community centers provides the neighborhood of Santa Maria de Jesus is nothing short of amazing. I encourage you to support this organization, so that it can increase its reach in the neighborhood and continue to serve the people of Guatemala.
