Birthday Adventures in Cuba – Day 4
Feliz Cumpleaños!! Cuba
This morning, I laid in bed longer than usual and thanked God so much for allowing me to see this day, but also positioning me exactly where I wanted to be at this exact moment. After my meditation moment, Arnei and Gregory presented me with a birthday gift of wrapped coffee to take back to Atlanta with me. After breakfast, I showered and hit the streets. First stop, the Wi-Fi park to call family and friends to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day!! After a quick Facebook post, I head off to have yet another breakfast/birthday mojito and a Cuban breakfast sandwich on the side, lol After, course I end up at the Hotel Iglatera.
And the Band Play On
As I’m sitting on the hotel patio, I notice the band is setting up. This is my third time enjoying this same band and now, I finally get to see them during the day. Sooooo I make a special request of a personal rendition of Besa Mi. Well, I got much more than I bargained for (see video here). The band serenaded me with a Cuban rendition of Happy Birthday and I got to dance with the band. It’s only 1pm!! Can this day any better…. Yes, much better!
My 4PM Cubano Date
The waiter from the previous night offered to take me on a tour on his day off. We met at the café and began our day of touring. We stopped to several of his family members’ homes. Out of respect, I’m not sharing any pictures inside their homes, but let’s just say I was welcomed with open arms and asked to stay and fellowship. Their hospitality was warming.
Street Stew Anyone?
In the streets of Cuba, several neighbors prepare meat and vegetables for a pot of stew that is cooked in the street.
. It is the most beautiful showing of community involvement I’ve ever seen. I was offered rum and soda as we danced in the street to Drake and Rhianna. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a bowl of stew as the final pot was whisked away to another community gathering. My day ended with a long slow walk home and a final goodbye from my last tour guide.
