Visit The Habersham Winery in Helen, Georgia
About the Habersham Winery
The Habersham Winery is one of my favorites in Georgia. It’s located deep in the North Georgia Mountains, at the Nacoochee village of Helen (about 1.5 hour drive from Atlanta). Since 1983, it’s been producing award winning wines which begin with careful monitoring of the vineyard by the Vineyard Manager Matt Chobanian. Additionally, the fermentation and aging process, is crafted by winemaker Andrew Beaty, educated at UC Davis and California trained, that personally sees to each detail of every process.
The popular Habersham and Creekstone labels are blended wines using both vinifera and French-American grapes. The Southern Harvest label is distinctly crafted with the succulent Southern Muscadine grape. Additionally, Habersham Winery uses American, French and Hungarian Oak Barrels with many of their wines. The Tasting Experience
Upon entering this beautiful country estate, you will be offered a wine sampling list of 17 wines and you get to select 5 for $7.50. The best part is that the price includes a souvenir wine glass to take home. After selecting your wines, the sommelier’s will give you a brief explanation of each as well as crackers to cleanse your palate between tastes.
My favorites are the following:- 2013 GA Creekstone Cabernet Sauvignon
- 2015 Gewurztraminer
- Peach Treat
After, the tasting you should sample the frozen wine treats and grab a few bottles to take home!! Check out the Habersham Winery!!
