Havana..The Second Time Around, My Top 5

Never did I think that I would return to Havana 10 months later.  It wasn’t on my list for 2017 but my best friend told me that she wanted to go and that meant, so was I. Traveling with my best friend is always fun and this was our first international trip. We created so many memories on this trip that I had to narrow it down to five.

Three days before our departure, my bestie presented me with a gift that I couldn’t open until the morning of the trip. The jar contained manifestos that were like mini deja vu’s of our friendship. Each day was exactly what we did the day before! How did she know??

My BFF has proven herself as a worthy travel companion. She very quickly found us a taxi that accepts USD since the currency line was wrapped around the building. Like they say, Money Talks! She also tracked down our luggage and even skipped to the short line at customs.

Yep, your read that right. We were able to get into a party at a beautiful rooftop bar where the owner instructs his security to not let people of color in (including African American and Afro-Cubans).  Well, let’s just say after some discussion with security, we were invited to go, “All the Way Up”. To our surprise, we weren’t asked to leave and the owner even allowed my bestie to use his personal bathroom.

Where do I start with Rene. He is the best guide ever!  We walked all over Havana and learned the history for 3 days.  Rene is truly a genuine Afro-Cuban and he took us to places where we could be ourselves.

The best way to eat in Cuba is in a living room. Literally, Cubans make restaurants in their homes and its the best food around.

Cuba, especially Havana is a must see for all!! You must be open minded and just know that you will be changed as the experience is hard to put into words. It’s a feeling that you are left with and I’m so blessed to visit this beautiful country and to create memories with my Bestie! Viva Havana
