Dinner at South City Kitchen Southern Restaurant
The South City Kitchen Restaurant is best described as serving upscale Southern cuisine with a twist, in the Atlanta suburbs. Customers favor dishes such as the chicken livers sautéed in onions and ham, fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and my personal favorite, the Fried Gouda Balls (see full dinner menu here). Lets stay there for a minute and let that soak in…gouda and cheddar cheese, rolled and deep-fried. And did I forget to mention topped off with General Lee Honey.
The bartender Jason began my dining experience with the most delicious whiskey cocktail that I’ve had in a very long time. The Well Mannered Gentleman is a wonderful balance of peach and pecan flavors, followed by the oak of High West Whiskey. Oops.. I almost forgot…the peach was infused into the whiskey.
My guest enjoyed the Blueberry Sage Lemonade with Lemon-infused vodka, blueberry-sage compote, fresh lemon and sage. Perfect for a southern summer.
Next, you can’t dine in the South without Corn bread muffins and biscuits.

9000 acres of land was acquired by Cyrus Alexander in 18164, and by 865 200 acres was used exclusively for a vineyard. Today, Alexander Valley has received formal recognition as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1984, and today 15,000 acres are planted to premium wine grapes.
The 2014 Cabernet Franc has aromas of black cherry, blueberry, dark plum, vanilla and chocolate with flavors of plum, black cherry, vanilla, blueberry and cassis. This is a rich, lush wine with a nice fruit balance and a structured finish.

Appetizers
We started with the sautéed chicken livers which were surprisingly delicious. I’m not a liver fan at all but, these were pretty amazing. And of course the fried gouda grit balls with honey…sinful, gooey, smokey, crunchy, goodness!
The menu at South City is curated daily by Head Chef, Jason Crain, that hails from Mississippi. My dinner choice for the evening was the “Nashville Hot Fried Catfish.” I haven’t had catfish in a while and it was fried to crispy perfection. Drenched in house-made hot sauce, atop bacon confit potatoes, kale, and topped with a cucumber-dill sauce. Let me just say, this fish was hot and cool at the same time.
The Grilled Plantation Quail was next on the menu, which came with a side of farro, fava beans, & mushrooms (by special request due to a dairy allergy). Absolutely tender, moist, and delicious.
Additionally, the Springer Mountain buttermilk fried chicken has been voted best fried chicken in Cobb County!) the beer, wine and craft cocktails Open nightly for dinner, Sunday brunch and for Private and Group Dining, this Southern gem will surely prove why its one of the best contemporary southern restaurants in Atlanta and the best in Vinings. This is definitely worth the drive this small Cobb County community.
